Quantum Motion is the UK's leading silicon spin-qubit company, spun out of UCL and Oxford in 2017 by Professor John Morton and Professor Simon Benjamin. It stores quantum information in the spin of single electrons trapped inside silicon quantum dots — structures built on the same 300mm CMOS fabrication lines used to make ordinary transistors — betting that reusing existing semiconductor manufacturing infrastructure, rather than exotic materials or large superconducting circuits, is the most scalable path to mass-producible qubit arrays.
In September 2025 it delivered what it describes as the industry's first full-stack silicon CMOS quantum computer to the UK's National Quantum Computing Centre — a tileable four-qubit system compact enough to fit in three server racks, installed under the NQCC's Testbed Programme. In May 2026 it closed a $160 million Series C co-led by DCVC and Kembara, with the British Business Bank, Bosch Ventures, Porsche SE, Oxford Science Enterprises and other returning backers — the largest quantum venture round ever raised by a UK company.
