ID Quantique is the world's most established quantum-safe security company — a 2001 spin-off from the University of Geneva's Group of Applied Physics, predating almost every other name on this page by more than a decade. It builds and sells quantum key distribution (QKD) systems, quantum-safe network encryption (Clavis XG/XGR, Clarion KX, Solteris) and quantum random number generators, with two decades of government and enterprise deployments including securing Geneva's state elections in 2007 and a world-record 307km QKD key exchange in 2014.
In February 2025, IonQ — the publicly traded trapped-ion pure-play (IONQ) — signed a deal to acquire a controlling stake in ID Quantique from SK Telecom, which had held majority control since 2018. The all-stock deal, worth roughly $116 million in net assets plus about 300 quantum-networking patents, closed in May 2025, and IonQ's stake grew to approximately 91% by July 2025. That makes ID Quantique the rare "private" company on this page where investors already have a direct, public route to ownership: buying IonQ stock.

Unlike other companies on this page, ID Quantique is not a "closest comparable" — it is a majority-owned subsidiary of IonQ (IONQ) itself. IonQ shareholders already own roughly 91% of ID Quantique.
Can you buy ID Quantique stock?
Not directly under its own ticker. IonQ (IONQ) acquired a controlling stake from SK Telecom in 2025 and now owns approximately 91% of ID Quantique — buying IONQ shares is the direct route to this business.
Why did IonQ buy ID Quantique?
IonQ's February 2025 acquisition agreement brought roughly 300 quantum-networking patents and an established quantum-safe cryptography business into its portfolio, positioning IonQ across both quantum computing and quantum-secure networking.
What does ID Quantique sell?
Quantum key distribution (QKD) hardware, quantum-safe network encryption products, and quantum random number generators — commercial products with two decades of government and enterprise deployments, not a pre-revenue startup.
