What Atom Computing Does

Atom Computing builds neutral-atom quantum computers using optically trapped ytterbium atoms with nuclear-spin qubits. In October 2023 it became the first company to announce a quantum system exceeding 1,000 physical qubits (a 1,225-site array with 1,180 qubits) — beating IBM to the milestone by weeks.

Its most important commercial relationship is with Microsoft: the two demonstrated 24 entangled logical qubits on Atom hardware with Azure Quantum's qubit-virtualization stack in late 2024, and jointly sell a commercial logical-qubit machine through Azure. In May 2026 the U.S. Department of Commerce signed a letter of intent for $100M in planned funding to help Atom scale.

Technology: Ytterbium neutral atoms, nuclear-spin qubits with minutes-long coherence; 1,000+ physical qubit arrays; Microsoft Azure Quantum logical-qubit partnership.
Roadmap: Commercial logical-qubit systems with Microsoft through Azure Quantum; scaling arrays toward fault tolerance in the late 2020s.

Atom Computing Stock FAQ

Can you buy Atom Computing stock?

No. Atom Computing is private with no announced IPO. Infleqtion (INFQ) is the listed neutral-atom comparable, and Microsoft (MSFT) partners directly with Atom on logical qubits.

What was Atom Computing's 1,000-qubit milestone?

In October 2023 it announced a 1,225-site atomic array holding 1,180 qubits — the first quantum system past 1,000 physical qubits, announced weeks before IBM's Condor.

What is the Microsoft partnership?

Microsoft's Azure Quantum error-correction stack runs on Atom's neutral-atom hardware; the pair demonstrated 24 entangled logical qubits in 2024 and market a commercial logical-qubit system through Azure.
